One of the most common comments that moms who want to work at home make is that they would love to know how to get started.  When you think about working at home, it can seem baffling about how people who contract for a living are able to make a go of it.  The idea of quitting your day job to work at home to be a good mom is very appealing and noble.  But before you take that big step into your new lifestyle, its good to have some ideas about how you are going to make money.

One great way to prepare for your goal of working at home is to network with moms you know who are doing the job.  Avoid talking about your desire to have a home based business with moms who are able to stay home and not work.  They are no doubt wonderful mothers but you don’t have the same goals in regards to work.  But by networking with successful stay at home moms, they can give you tips on not only where to find work but on the kinds of businesses they had success with and how to navigate the tricky world of working from home.

One of the first changes to how you envisioned working at home is the realization that when you actually start out generating revenue on your own, you may have many work at home plans, not just one.  You may focus on an internet business and building a website to make that work but at the same time do some telemarketing, take in babysitting or dog sitting and write articles for the web to make money.  This is actually healthy because by having many ventures you are exploring, each of them is an opportunity for something to “take off” and become the work at home career that will make you prosperous and successful.

Many of them try to give you the impression that all you have to do is use their banners and links then wait for the money to start rolling in. Although this can be the case, this type of scenario normally applies to large sites with a lot of web traffic.

Choosing banners

With most affiliate programs, you are offered a variety of banners to plan on your website, as very few of them will be effective. The problems with most banners are their size. If you choose a banner that is high in size, it will take a long time to implement and use. Therefore, it’s recommended that you use banners no more than 15kb in size.

When you select any types of graphical advertising, you should try and keep the theme of your website in mind. Even though graphical ads are meant to stand out and catch people’s eye, they shouldn’t be to the point where everything else on the page is completely ignored.

Pop ups and unders

A lot of companies will now give their affiliates the chance of using pop up or pop under ads. In most opinions, pop ups aren’t the way to go. They can easily annoy visitors and are normally closed before they even have the chance to load. You should instead go for pop unders and those types that only display once per visit.
